33-goal Norwegian-Nigerian striker Ohi battling Bayern, Real Madrid stars for European Golden Shoe
Published: April 28, 2022
Red Star Belgrade striker Ohi Omoijuanfo is battling Bayern Munich superstar Robert Lewandowski and Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema for the European Golden Shoe.
The European Golden Shoe is an award that is presented each season to the leading goalscorer in league matches from the top division of every European national league and since the 1996-1997 season has been presented by European Sports Media.
Omoijuanfo, who has one cap for his country of birth Norway but remains eligible to represent the Super Eagles, has tallied 33 goals combined for Red Star Belgrade and Molde.
The 28-year-old had a brilliant 2021 campaign at Molde with 27 goals to emerge top scorer in the Norwegian Eliteserien and has tallied six goals since his winter move to Red Star Belgrade.
Omoijuanfo has accumulated 49.5 points in the Golden Shoe rankings which puts him in fourth position in the race to be officially crowned the leading marksman in the whole of Europe.
Lewandowski (33 goals) leads the way with 66 points followed by Lazio center forward Ciro Immobile (26 goals) and Real Madrid's Benzema (25 goals) who have 52 and 50 points respectively.
Although Omoijuanfo and Lewandowski have scored the same number of goals, the Pole is playing in a higher ranked league and his goals were multiplied by 2 while goals netted by the Norwegian-Nigerian were multiplied by a factor of 1.5.
