Leicester City join race to sign Super Eagles striker
Published: May 05, 2022Leicester City are the latest English Premier League club linked with a summer move for Taiwo Awoniyi.
Sport Witness citing Sport Bild claims the Nigeria international centre forward is one of two Bundesliga players being eyed by the Foxes ahead of next season, the other being Hoffenheim midfielder Christoph Baumgartner.
The German newspaper has reported that a number of 'English middle-class clubs' such as Leicester are 'trying to sign him' in the summer.
Awoniyi is enjoying his best season as a professional to date, scoring eighteen goals in all competitions - his career best in a single season.
The 24-year-old would not have problems adapting to life in the East Midlands as he was previously on the books of Liverpool and trained with their youth and first teams in pre-season.
He was teammates with Leicester City duo Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho at U17 and U20 levels prior to his senior debut in October 2021.
Awoniyi's name has also been mooted regarding possible moves to West Ham United, Newcastle United and Southampton in the summer.
