Arsenal and Barcelona interested in signing talented midfielder of Nigerian descent
Published: May 26, 2022Arsenal have reportedly set their sights on signing Aston Villa youngster Carney Chukwuemeka but face competition for the talented midfielder's signature.
According to Spanish outlet Cadena SER via Sport, the north Londoners who finished fifth in the Premier League standings are interested in signing Chukwuemeka.
The Gunners, who are in the market for at least one central midfielder this summer, have been linked with Leicester City's Belgium star Youri Tielemans and also have Chukwuemeka on their radar.
Barcelona have been credited with an interest in Chukwuemeka who has just one year left on his deal with Steven Gerrard's side.
The 18-year-old midfielder is highly rated at Aston Villa but he has become frustrated by his lack of playing time, having made only three starts from a possible 41 in all competitions over the course of the 2021-2022 season.
He made his England U19 debut in September 2021 and has three goals to his name in eight appearances, six of which were in the U19 EURO qualifiers.
Apart from England, Chukwuemeka is also eligible to represent the national teams of Nigeria through his dad and Austria, where he was born.
