Mexico v Nigeria : Match preview, Super Eagles squad list, what to expect from the game, kickoff time

In a friendly match scheduled for May 28th, 2022, the Super Eagles, who were knocked out of the FIFA World Cup 2022 qualification round by the Black Stars of Ghana, will play Concacaf powerhouse Mexico.

The Super Eagles will be led by their new manager Jose Peseiro. Ahead of the friendly match between the two football-oriented nations, this article provides all the information you need.

Match preview

Peseiro will be leading the Super Eagles out for his first official game and he will no doubt be hoping for a win to kick-start his Nigeria career.

Nigeria and Mexico have only met five times in their history with all being in friendly matches.

The Super Eagles have never beaten Mexico with the South Americans winning two games and drawing the other three.

Nigeria squad list

Goalkeepers (3) : Francis Uzoho (AC Omonia, Cyprus); Adewale Adeyinka (Akwa United); Ojo Olorunleke (Enyimba FC)

Defenders (7) : Olaoluwa Aina (Torino FC, Italy); William Ekong (Watford FC, England); Chidozie Awaziem (Alanyaspor FC, Turkey); Oluwasemilogo Ajayi (West Bromwich Albion, England); Calvin Bassey (Glasgow Rangers, Scotland); Ibrahim Buhari (Plateau United); Sani Faisal (Katsina United)

Midfielders (5): Joseph Ayodele-Aribo (Glasgow Rangers, Scotland); Alex Iwobi (Everton FC, England); Chiamaka Madu (Rivers United); Innocent Bonke (FC Lorient, France); Babatunde Bello (Akwa United)

Forwards (5) : Moses Simon (FC Nantes, France); Cyriel Dessers (Feyenoord FC, The Netherlands); Victor Mbaoma (Enyimba FC); Ishaq Rafiu (Rivers United); Terem Moffi (FC Lorient, France)

What to expect

With Peseiro favouring a 5-4-1 formation it is most likely that Nigeria start the game cautiously and aim for stability first before building from there.

Former Barcelona manager Gerard Martino heavily favours a 4-3-3 formation and will most likely aim to gain superiority on the ball over the Super Eagles.

With players like Raul Gimenez and Hector Herrera at his disposal, Martino will most likely want his team to get at Nigeria's 18-yard-box.

Fans can expect a tactical battle between two experienced managers with both of them switching their formations and tactical blueprints from time to time.

Kickoff time/Venue

The match will kickoff at 1900 hours Texas time (0100 hours in Nigeria Sunday) at the AT&T Stadium situated at the AT&T Way in Arlington.
