Opinion : Two ways Ten Hag can utilize Shoretire next season if winger remains at Man Utd
Published: June 28, 2022New Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has included Shola Shoretire in the Red Devils' pre-season squad for the time being.
Manchester United's academy is one of the best in the world when it comes to producing exceptional young players.
The academy has produced some of the top players in world football, including Mason Greenwood, Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford, Phil Neville, Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs, David Beckham, Paul Scholes and a host of others.
Anglo-Nigerian descent winger Shola Shoretire is one of the greatest prospects coming out of Manchester United's academy.
Shoretire has totaled five appearances for Manchester United's first team since making his professional debut in a Premier League clash against Newcastle United.
As the new season approaches, the Red Devils are in search of reinforcements for the team with the club already close to signing Frenkie De Jong.
However, with Shoretire being named in the preseason squad, there is a chance that Erik ten Hag retains the youngster next season as it is not yet determined if he would be going out on loan or remain at Old Trafford.
In the eventuality that the Anglo-Nigerian remains at the club for the 2022/2023 season, allnigeriasoccer.com analyses two ways he can be utilized by United's Dutch manager.
Key Rotational Option
Erik ten Hag is a faithful disciple of the 4-3-3 Jeugo De Posición tactical system. This system needs two interior midfielders ahead of a single base midfielder.
Profile-wise, the only player in the United first-team squad that is an interior player is Jadon Sancho. This is why the Dutch manager has been hot on the heels of Frenkie De Jong from Barcelona.
However, Manchester United cannot fill up all the squad positions in a single summer but ten Hag needs to have options on the bench.
Shoretire is a player who has the traits of a natural interior. His associative-play is excellent and he is very quick on the turn which is a great asset to have due to compressed spaces in attacking zones.
Shoretire can be kept as a rotational option for Sancho and De Jong (if he eventually arrives) before more players are signed next January or summer.
Early Cup Round games
Manchester United luckily snatched the Europa League spot on the final day of the last season and would be participating in four competitions next season.
To compete at any level, the club needs a big squad bearing in mind that players like Paul Pogba, Juan Mata, and Nemanja Matic among others have all been released.
The early FA and Carabao Cup rounds are a perfect avenue to rest first-eleven players and also to test the levels at which the young players are. This will provide valuable game-time for Shoretire.
