Tottenham, Leicester, Leeds, Newcastle and Everton : Which club would be Madueke's best choice?
Published: July 01, 2022
With the transfer window moving on differently for clubs and players, Nonso Madueke has been the subject of interest from a lot of top-class teams.
According to reports from 90MIN, Premier League clubs like Tottenham Hotspur, Leicester City, Leeds United, Newcastle United, Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers are looking to bolster their squads with offensive reinforcements this summer and Madueke is on their wishlist.
PSV Eindhoven has also signed highly-rated Netherlands U19 international Xavi Simons from Paris Saint-Germain which suggests that they have already made plans in the event that they part ways with Madueke this summer.
With the caliber of clubs tracking the 20-year-old, allnigeriasoccer.com takes a look at the player and clubs playing styles to arrive at a verdict on which club is Madueke's best choice.
Madueke's style of play
A direct multi-angled threat in 1v1 situations, Madueke is a nightmare to defences thanks to his trickery, pace, ball control, flair and physical strength all working together.
In possession, Madueke often cuts in from the right flank with scary directness and ferociousness, working his way towards the opponents' box through the half-spaces where he may fire shots or put a teammate in with a sharp through pass.
Even with his back to goal, Madueke is confident in his ability to hold the ball and spin off the defender, instead of playing a back-pass. This ability makes him highly unpredictable.
Tottenham Hotspur
Antonio Conte practices a traditional 3-5-2 formation which metamorphoses into a 3-4-2-1 on the attack.
However, the Italian has augmented automatism in his set-up which are applied in different on-pitch situations by his players
One automatism is the dropping off of Harry Kane into the midfield or half-spaces to release Son or Kulusevski into large areas of space or isolations with opposition full-backs.
Newcastle United
With the new influx of cash from their new Arab owners, Newcastle is an emerging force to reckon with.
With players like Allan Saint-Maximin, Bruno Guimaraes and Kieran Trippier, former Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe has created an extremely attacking 4-3-3 set-up at the club.
Eddie Howe's 4-3-3 is however not based on Juego De Posición as it is extremely free with players being able to interchange frequently.
Leicester City
Manager Brendan Rodgers favours a slightly flexible 4-2-3-1 approach which occasionally metamorphoses into a 4-1-4-1 depending on the opposition.
Leeds United
After Bielsa left the club, new manager Jesse Marsch changed the gung-ho 4-3-3 approach Bielsa favoured.
The American prefers a bit conservative 4-2-3-1 and 4-4-2 formation. Leeds attempt to control possession and burst through the flanks with pace.
Everton
Lampard is a 'proactive' manager who wants to play possession-based football but he threw those principles out of the window to keep Everton up in the Premier League and it worked. However, his approach created a problem.
It is not yet known if Everton would continue with the 5-4-1 deep, long ball and counter-press system which isn't Lampard's identity or build around a hypothetical system that has not been instilled.
Allnigeriasoccer Verdict
With his style of play and being left-footed, Leeds would have been an excellent choice for the player as Brazilian winger Raphinha has been reported to be close to leaving the club.
Tottenham Hotspur would have been an attractive option but the likes of Son, Kulusevski and the incoming Richarlison will make game-time scarce for Madueke. Leicester is also stocked in attack and Newcastle is expected to go big.
However, if a move to Leeds does not materialize, a good second choice would be Leicester City.
