Should Arsenal progress with their reported interest in Kante or launch an assault for Nigeria star?
Published: July 10, 2022With the transfer window rumbling ahead and clubs doing all they can to strengthen their squads before the new season starts, Arsenal are one of the clubs who have completed a lot of deals despite having several weeks left before the transfer window closes.
This is understandable as the London giants have a lot of gaps to fill in the squad. Amongst the positions that need strengthening, the lone pivot position is arguably the most important.
Thomas Partey has had fitness issues since he arrived at the Emirates, Albert Sambi Lokonga is not yet mature enough while Mohamed Elneny is more suited to a midfield pivot.
Reports from the English media including Football.london have stated that the Gunners are considering a move for Chelsea's midfield dynamo N'Golo Kante.
With the French World Cup winner having just a year left on his current contract, he would be attracting a lot of interest due to his quality.
However, is it a good decision for Arsenal to progress with their interest in Kante? Or should an assault be launched on Nigerian midfielder Wilfred Ndidi?
Allnigeriasoccer.com takes a look at who the Gunners should target between both players.
Style of play
N'Golo Kante excels at playing in a midfield pivot with another ball recycler like Mateo Kovacic alongside him. Ndidi on the other hand is suited to a single or double pivot.
Arsenal utilises a 4-3-3 Juego De Posición set-up which needs a single pivot player.
While Ndidi needs to work on his ball progression and press evasion, he is better suited to Arsenal's style of play.
Age
Ndidi is 25 years old while Kante is 31 years old. The Nigerian is coming into his prime years while the Frenchman is already at his peak and declining.
Financial package
Kante earns a reported £290,000 a week at Chelsea. Judging from Arsenal's business strategy of shedding highly paid players like Aubameyang, Lacazette and Ozil, it is safe to say the Gunners may be unwilling to commit such huge wages to a 31-year-old Kante.
Ndidi on the other hand reportedly earns less and is more likely to be in Arsenal's wage bracket.
Injury
Both players have had their fair share of injuries. However, Ndidi has a better chance of overcoming his to play at the highest level for a longer period due to his age.
Comparing the above reasons, allnigeriasoccer thinks Arsenal would do better to launch an assault to sign Nigerian midfielder Ndidi ahead of Kante.
