Lasers must be banned and four other observations from Nigeria's gallant loss to Morocco

There will be new winners of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after defending champions Nigeria lost 5-4 to Morocco on penalties in the semifinals on Monday.

1. Lasers Must Be Banned

The Moroccan fans, much like most North African fans had their green lasers in the faces of the Super Falcons' players throughout the game.

The aim was to distract the Nigerian players and have their sights affected.

This has remained a negative tactic by most fans at football grounds and FIFA must direct its affiliated federations to stamp it out form the stands.

2 Moroccan possession

The Nigerian side dominated the first half and could have scored more as the Moroccans, played out from the back and thereby limiting their chances to punish the Falcons.

That seemingly changed after the two red cards to Halimatu Ayinde and Rasheedat Ajibade.

3. Onumonu,  Kanu's sub decisions

Coach Randy Waldrum brought off Uchenna Kanu in the second half and persisted with Ifeoma Onumonu.

Kanu could have been left on the pitch while a tiring Onumonu makes way but it seemed as though Waldrum believed his team will survive the numerical disadvantage.

Kanu was everywhere and troubled the Moroccans but Onumonu apparently was jaded. Her coach might be thinking that her height will come handy. Onumonu missed her spot kick.

4. Foul on Ohale deserved a red card

The Moroccans got away with one refereeing decision as a bad foul on defender Osinachi Ohale ought to have been penalized with a red card.

5. Impressive Nnadozie

Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie produced several wonderful saves towards the end of the extra time to preserve the score at 1-1 before the penalty shootout.
