'I was miles off it' - Chelsea loanee of Nigerian descent explains why he struggled last season
Published: July 23, 2022
Chelsea loanee of Nigerian descent Faustino Anjorin has admitted that he wasn't at his best in the second half of last season during a loan spell at Huddersfield Town.
The England U20 international is back at the Terriers, for whom he made eight appearances off the bench and was on target once against Coventry City in the Championship.
When Huddersfield Town signed Anjorin in the January transfer window, the attacking midfielder was still undergoing rehabilitation from a metatarsal injury he suffered on the eve of Lokomotiv Moscow's Europa League meeting with Galatasaray.
Chelsea declared him fully fit before he headed to the Yorkshire club for a second loan spell considering that he trained with the first team in the United States and was in the development squad that faced Real Monarchs in a friendly three days ago.
Anjorin has started training with his Huddersfield Town teammates before their Championship opener against Burnley next weekend.
"I’m ready to – it’s as simple as that," Anjorin told the official website of Huddersfield Town.
"Last year, because I had the injury, I didn’t feel I was at my best, for sure – I was miles off it.
"The game you got at Coventry was me getting to that level. I’ve worked hard ahead of pre-season, and now in pre-season I feel strong and ready to go.
"You can expect a lot more now. Even in that (Coventry) game, you could see I was knackered and still not at the fitness levels that I am now."
The 20-year-old Anjorin has totaled five appearances for Chelsea's first team since making his professional debut in a Carabao Cup fixture against Grimsby Town in 2019.
