Ten Hag promotes Flying Eagles-eligible midfielder to first team training pre-Atletico Madrid
Published: July 28, 2022Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag has promoted Flying Eagles-eligible attacking midfielder Shola Shoretire to first team training ahead of his side's trip to the Norwegian capital Oslo, where they face La Liga giants Atletico Madrid in a pre-season fixture.
The latest training images published by the official website of the Red Devils confirm that the England U19 international of Nigerian descent participated in Wednesday's workout at Carrington Training Ground.
It is believed that the Dutch football tactician invited the Anglo-Nigeria and some other academy stars to make up the numbers as a number of first team players including summer signings Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez were involved in a behind-closed-doors match.
Shoretire trained with United's first team at the beginning of pre-season preparations, only to be left out of the Tour 2022 squad to Thailand and Australia.
The explanation then was that the 18-year-old wasn't included on the roster because a loan move was on the cards.
Shoretire was training with the development squad to maintain his fitness while the first team was in Asia, and participated in their most recent friendly against National League North club Kidderminster Harriers on Tuesday evening.
