Will Super Eagles star be a good alternative if Man Utd fail in their pursuit of Antony?
Published: July 28, 2022With the transfer window rumbling ahead and clubs doing all they can to strengthen their squads before the new season starts, Manchester United are one of the clubs who have joined the party late in completing deals.
This is understandable as the club had a lot of internal issues like managerial appointment, squad clearing and evaluation to sort out before delving into the transfer market.
Reports have linked Manchester United with the signing of Ajax star Antony as Ten Hag looks for his one v one wing specialist. It is understandable that the Dutch manager wants his former player who he knows very well during his time at Ajax.
However, a hefty price tag has been slapped on the player with Ajax not prepared to lose another key player after losing Lisandro Martinez and Sebastian Haller.
The odds that Ten Hag gets his man are currently low, but in case the Dutchman fails in his pursuit of Antony, will Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze be a capable alternative?
Allnigeriasoccer.com takes a look at the situation to arrive at a verdict.
Style of play
Antony is a one-on-one specialist which makes it obvious why Ten Hag wants him at the club. A winger who is capable of creating from the flanks is essential in a Juego De Posición system which is Ten Hag's preferred game style.
While Chukwueze is not as technical as Anthony, he offers a high penetration of penetration and can beat his man on the inside as well as the outside.
Age
Antony is 22 years old while Chukwueze is 23 years old. Both players are quite young and are yet to hit their prime.
Financial package
With a reported fee of 100 million euros being demanded by Ajax, it is safe to say that Chukwueze may be a better financial prospect for now.
There are still many holes to fill in the squad and funds would be required to do so.
Comparing the above reasons, allnigeriasoccer thinks Antony is a good prospect for Manchester United but if he is unattainable this summer, Chukwueze would be a very capable alternative.
Also quite handy to note that clubs do not get their first choice every time.
