PL2 : Anglo-Spanish-Nigerian midfielder on target for Arsenal in 3-1 win against Man Utd
Published: August 06, 2022
A new Premier League 2 season got underway as Arsenal hosted Manchester United at Meadow Park, with the Gunners coming from behind to beat the Red Devils 3-1.
Anglo-Spanish-Nigerian midfielder Miguel Azeez, central defender Zach Awe and James Olayinka as an overage player were named in Arsenal's starting lineup while Shola Shoretire and Maxi Oyedele missed out entirely for the Red Devils.
In what appeared to be a tough start for Arsenal, they were able to secure all three points thank to goals from Khayon Edwards, Marquinhos and Azeez.
Charlie Wellens, on thirteen minutes gave United the lead, but Edwards equalised when he tapped home the rebound after Marquinhos' shot was parried into his path.
Marquinhos found the bottom corner with a composed finish to make it 2-1 and things got worse for Manchester United when Azeez finished in the box after a superb assist from the impressive Marquinhos.
Arsenal made a double substitution in the 76th minute, one of which saw Nathan Butler-Oyedeji replace Charles Sagoe.
Nigerian-born midfielder Tim Akinola and Dutch-Nigerian winger Joel Ideho were not involved for Arsenal against Manchester United.
