Liverpool confirm Nigeria-eligible defender will start Anfield career with U21s
Published: August 10, 2022Through their official website, Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Nigeria-eligible defender Oludare Olufunwa.
The Reds have clarified that Dare will start his Anfield career with the U21s team in the 2022-2023 season.
Olufunwa was offered a contract after impressing the academy coaches during a trial period this summer.
He is eligible to represent Liverpool in this season's Premier League 2 as he was born after January 1, 2001.
For the 2022-2023 season, Olufunwa doesn't necessarily have to be included in Liverpool's 25-man Premier League squad list as he is classed as an U21 player.
Olufunwa spent eleven years at previous club Southampton, joining them after he was spotted while playing for a local club.
As a Saints player, he registered twenty-seven appearances in the Premier League 2 and also featured in the Papa John's Trophy.
Liverpool were beaten 3-0 by defending champions Manchester City in their opening match of the new Premier League 2 season, with Nigerian strikers Dire Mebude and Daniel Ogwuru accounting for all the goals scored by the Citizens.
