Snapped : England boss Southgate meets with Chelsea's Super Eagles-eligible midfielder
Published: August 10, 2022
England manager Gareth Southgate was a surprise visitor at Chelsea's Cobham Training Centre on Wednesday to observe the players during their training routine, informs the official website of The Blues.
The Three Lions boss also had the chance to meet the Blues' manager Thomas Tuchel as well as England stars like Mason Mount, Ben Chilwell, Connor Gallagher, Reece James amidst others.
Southgate also met with Chelsea's Super Eagles-eligible midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka who arrived at Stamford Bridge last week from Aston Villa in a deal worth up to 20 million pounds.
The 51-year-old watched Chukwuemeka train amidst others whilst having a word with some of the players including Tuchel ahead of the London derby against rivals Tottenham Hotspur which comes up on Sunday.
Southgate also attended Chelsea's game against Frank Lampard's Everton last weekend at Goodison Park which the Blues won with a slim 1-0 scoreline.
It is not yet known if Southgate's visit is related to Chukwuemeka's national team choice as the 18-year-old is eligible to play for both England and Nigeria.
The former Aston Villa wonderkid was a key member of the Young Lions squad that won the 2022 European U19 Championship this summer.
