Chukwuemeka to make his Chelsea debut tonight but for development squad
Published: August 15, 2022Carney Chukwuemeka is set to make his first appearance in a Chelsea shirt since signing from Aston Villa.
The official website of Chelsea reported this morning that Chukwuemeka is among the first team players set to accrue some valuable match minutes tonight to help their fitness when the development squad take on west London rivals Fulham at Kingsmeadow.
Ben Chilwell, Trevoh Chalobah, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ethan Ampadu are the other first team players in line to be involved against the Cottagers.
Chukwuemeka was left out entirely from the matchday squad for Chelsea's first two Premier League matches against Everton and Tottenham Hotspur though he has been training with the first team since his arrival from Villa Park.
Understandly, the European U19 champion would have been lacking match fitness when he joined Chelsea considering that he did not figure in any of the pre-season matches played by Aston Villa due to speculation surrounding his future.
Chukwuemeka has not featured in the Premier League 2 since February 21, 2022 when he went the distance against Norwich City.
The Anglo-Nigerian midfielder will be included on Chelsea's Premier League roster as an U21 player.
