Nantes regret missing out on signing Arsenal-owned striker Balogun

Arsenal-owned striker Folarin Balogun could have been teammates with Nigeria international Moses Simon at Nantes for the 2022-2023 season.

According to French sports daily L'Equipe, Balogun's good start to his career at Stade de Reims is giving Nantes some regrets.

The Canaries attempted to sign the England U21 international of Nigerian descent in July but missed out on his signature due to a disagreement between manager Antoine Kombouaré and sporting coordinator Pilippe Mao.

Reims eventually won the race for the services of the Hale End Academy product, signing him on loan for the entirety of the 2022-2023 season.

Balogun has flourished in the French Ligue 1, scoring against all the teams he has faced with the exception of Lyon, and took his tally to five goals in six appearances after opening the scoring against Lens on Sunday.

Reims have been following the progress of Balogun since 2019 and offered him his first professional contract but the striker decided to commit his future to the Gunners.

The six-time French champions have an excellent relationship with Balogun's intermediary who brokered the deal that took Liverpool academy product Sheyi Ojo to Reims in the summer of 2018.
