Confirmed : Former Southampton defender to coach Chukwuemeka at Chelsea
Published: September 08, 2022
Anglo-Nigerian youngster Carney Chukwuemeka will be hoping to impress new Chelsea coach Graham Potter.
Through their official website, Chelsea have announced former Southampton defender Graham Potter as their new coach.
The Blues and Potter both agreed to a five-year-deal that is valid until the summer of 2027.
The 47-year-old last managed Chelsea's Premier League rivals Brighton & Hove Albion, where he achieved the club's highest-ever league finish in 2021-2022.
Chelsea relieved Thomas Tuchel of his job on Wednesday morning, following a run of inconsistent results.
Chukwuemeka who joined Chelsea in August 2022 hasn't made his first team debut for Chelsea.
Thomas Tuchel named the Nigeria eligible midfielder in three matchday squads.
He played the role of an unused substitute in the game against Dinamo Zagreb, Leeds United and Southampton.
Chukwuemeka has featured twice for Chelsea's U21 in the Premier League 2 this season.
With the 47-year-old coming on board, every player is likely to get a clean slate and an opportunity to impress the Englishman.
Chelsea next play away to Fulham in a Premier League game on Saturday at the Craven Cottage.
The Londoners have won three games, lost two and drawn one. They are currently 6th in the English topflight with ten points.
