Real Sociedad confirm Super Eagles striker has suffered ACL injury
Published: September 12, 2022
Through their official website, Real Sociedad have confirmed that Sadiq Umar has suffered an ACL injury.
Sadiq suffered the injury in Real Sociedad's 2-1 loss to Getafe in a La Liga Santander game at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez on Sunday, September 11.
The Super Eagles forward has been diagnosed with a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in the right leg.
According to the Basque County based club, the former AS Roma youngster will start physiotherapy treatment and undergo surgical treatment.
Sadiq joined La Real from UD Almeria on deadline day in the summer transfer window, signing a six-year contract that's valid until the summer of 2028.
The 25-year-old Nigerian has been involved in just one goal in three appearances for Real Sociedad.
The 2016 Olympic Games bronze medalist has scored three goals in six games for both UD Almeria and Real Sociedad this season.
The club also went on to state that further information as regards the situation will be provided in the coming days.
Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro will not be able to count on the services of Sadiq for the national team's upcoming international friendly against Algeria later this month.
