Hutchison highlights what was expected of Ndidi before Tottenham's 3rd goal vs Leicester
Published: September 19, 2022Former Liverpool midfielder Don Hutchison has expressed his thoughts on the performance of Super Eagles star Wilfred Ndidi, who had a game to forget on Saturday evening in Leicester City's 6-2 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The Nigerian was dispossessed off the ball in the 47th minute by Spurs' Rodrigo Bentancur for the third goal scored by the north London side who are third on the log with 17 points.
Hutchinson bared his mind on Premier League Productions' review of the game.
"I can imagine what Brendan Rodgers said to Ndidi in the middle of the park. He wants him to play a one-two pass (when he received the ball before losing it to Bentancur).
"I think when you are in that situation, if you are Jonny Evans, you can say: I have two options, I can play it to Ndidi who is going to play it to Faes, take it out of the equation, you just play the pass," Hutchison who is one of the Premier League match commentators for Sky Sports further said on Premier League Productions.
The Nigerian who initially handled the ball for a disallowed Spurs goal was substituted by Boubakary Soumaré in the 85th minute of the defeat to Tottenham.
Spurs will face Arsenal in the north London derby on October 1 after the international break while Leicester play Nottingham Forest on Monday October 3.
Ndidi will now focus on the international friendly between Nigeria and Algeria on September 27 after injury ruled him out of the team's matches since the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
Ndidi's is one of the 25 players invited by Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro for the friendly in Oran.
