How bad is injury suffered by Troost-Ekong on Nigeria duty? Watford provide update
Published: September 30, 2022
The injury suffered by William Troost-Ekong while on international duty against Algeria's B team exactly a week ago is not as bad as first feared, if the injury update issued by Watford is anything to go by.
The central defender had to be decamped due to the ailment and flew back to his base in England for further checks.
Providing an update on the squad before the Championship clash against Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium, Watford confirmed through their official website that Troost-Ekong will not play his first game under new manager Slaven Bilić this weekend.
The medical report issued by Watford confirmed that Troost-Ekong was forced off the pitch against Algeria B due to a hamstring injury and he is aiming to return to action mid-October.
If his rehabilitation goes according to plan, his return to action will coincide with the Hornets' Championship match against Norwich City on October 15, 2022.
Apart from Sunday's visit to Stoke City, the Super Eagles assistant captain will be unavailable for selection in league matches against Swansea City and Blackpool.
Troost-Ekong was used sparingly under dismissed coach Rob Edwards, logging 97 minutes from a possible 900 in ten games in the English second tier.
Troost-Ekong wasn't the only Nigerian player mentioned in the injury update as Watford also informed that Tom Dele-Bashiru’s rehabilitation is going well, with the 23-year-old training individually outside.
