'A great purchase' - Atalanta boss highlights what makes Lookman a top player
Published: October 16, 2022
Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini was full of praise for Ademola Lookman after his match-winning strike in a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Sassuolo on Saturday, and highlighted that he is a top signing.
The Nerazzurri brought in the Super Eagles winger from RB Leipzig in the summer transfer window for a fee of nine million euros
Lookman has adapted to the Italian Serie A like a duck taking to water, and would have been on five goals for the season but his strike in the win versus Monza ultimately went down as an own goal by Marlon.
With pace to burn and excellent dribbling skills, Lookman brings so much to the Atalanta team and has been a key player in their recent successes.
After ten games in the Italian top-flight, the Bergamo side are one of the two undefeated teams and are neck-and-neck with Napoli in the race for the title.
"Lookman is what you call a player . He always knows what to do, he moves well, he is fast, he has technique," Gasperini was quoted as saying by Pazzi Di Fanta,
"I also give him the goal from Monza, because it is true that he is an own goal, but it would never have been a goal if he did not arrive ” .
He continued : "5 goals are a lot, but beyond the goals the contribution he gives continuously is important . Then he is a guy who has already understood many things, how to move, how to play, how to train.
"He grew up in Leipzig and that is an important school, for us it is really a great purchase."
Lookman enjoyed loan spells at Fulham and Leicester City in back-to-back seasons before he was sold by RB Leipzig.
