Official : Manchester United legend to coach Super Eagles hopeful at Middlesbrough

With a statement on their official website, EFL Championship outfit Middlesbrough have announced the appointment of Manchester United legend  Michael Carrick as the club's new permanent manager.

Boro's managerial job became vacant after the club agreed to cut ties with Chris Wilder three weeks ago following a poor run of results.

The 41-year-old Carrick was a player of Manchester United for twelve years before embarking on a coaching career under Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

He recorded two wins against Villarreal and Arsenal, and a draw versus Chelsea as caretaker manager of Manchester United in the first half of the 2021-2022 season.

Carrick will be coaching Chuba Akpom, who trained with the Nigeria national team in 2017, at Middlesbrough.

Akpom played five matches in all competitions with Wilder in the dugout, scoring two goals in 271 minutes of action.

The Hale End Academy product is Boro's joint top scorer in the Championship with four goals, despite missing seven straight games due to injury.

Akpom could play his first game under Carrick on Saturday, October 29 when Middlesbrough tackle Preston North End in the Championship.
