Arsenal manager promotes 18yo Nigerian defender to first team training pre-FC Zurich
Published: November 02, 2022Arsenal rounded off their preparations for the Europa League matchday six fixture against FC Zurich with a training session at London Colney on Wednesday.
Nigerian youngster Zach Awe was among the players Gunners manager Mikel Arteta monitored at close quarters during the workout, with a view to the Spaniard making a decision on whether or not to include him in the matchday squad.
The 18-year-old central defender has been registered on Arsenal's List B for the Europa League and will be wearing the number 38 at the back of his jersey if handed minutes against the current Swiss Super League champions.
Awe has received only one call up for a first team game in his career, against Wolverhampton Wanderers back in February at the
Molineux Stadium, where he was a non-playing substitute.
He is a commanding center-back, who possesses a good range of passing, and stands out for his aerial ability and reading of the game.
Arsenal will be confirmed in the round of sixteen as group winners if they beat FC Zurich or PSV do not win at Bodø/Glimt.
