Confirmed team news : First call up of the season for Man Utd's Flying Eagles-eligible player
Published: November 03, 2022Flying Eagles-eligible striker Shola Shoretire has received his first senior call up of the 2022-2023 season for Manchester United.
Shoretire, who has played non-binding games for England youth teams, has been named in the Red Devils' matchday squad to face Real Sociedad in Thursday evening's Europa League clash at Reala Stadium-San Sebastian.
This is the first time the Anglo-Nigerian has been selected in a matchday squad for a competitive game since the appointment of manager Erik ten Hag in the summer.
Shoretire has fond memories of the Europa League as it was in this competition he set a Manchester United record during the 2020-2021 season.
The number 47 is the youngest ever player to represent Manchester United in European competition, making his debut in the Europa League against Real Sociedad in February 2021 at the age of 17 years and 23 days.
Meanwhile, Super Eagles striker Umar Sadiq is still undergoing rehabilitation after suffering a serious knee injury that required surgery and is not in the Real Sociedad squad to face Manchester United.
The 2016 Rio Olympics bronze medalist started for the Spanish side at Old Trafford on matchday one.
