PL 2 : John Terry in attendance as Nigerian RB stars in Chelsea's 3-0 win v Tottenham
Published: November 08, 2022
Chelsea and England legend John Terry was in attendance at Kingsmeadow on Monday night as Chelsea U21s thrashed Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 in their final Premier League 2 game of 2022.
A product of the Chelsea Academy, Terry returned to Cobham in December 2021 to begin a coaching consultancy role at the academy.
Regarded as the most successful player in Chelsea's history, Terry was pictured having a chat with Nigerian right-back Derrick Abu on the Kingsmeadow pitch.
Abu caught the eye against Tottenham Hotspur, helping goalkeeper Eddie Beach keep a clean sheet in 89 minutes of action, and a yellow card he received in the 87th minute after a poor challenge was the only blemish to his brilliant performance.
In a 4-2-3-1 formation, the Flying Eagles-eligible fullback was deployed as a right-back.
Chelsea started very well but it was goalless at the break with very little clear cut chances at either end.
After a cagey forty five minutes, Jude Soonsup-Bell with a brilliant finish at the near post broke the deadlock in the 56th minute, Charlie Webster doubled Chelsea's lead in the 69th minute and Malik Mothersille put the icing on the cake with six minutes left on the clock.
