'Can't be 38' - Nigerian fans hail veteran Brazil defender Thiago Silva after starring v Serbia
Published: November 25, 2022Brazil started their 2022 World Cup campaign with a 2-0 win over Serbia at the Lusail Stadium.on Thursday evening.
After a goalless first half, Tottenham Hotspur striker Richarlison pounced on the rebound and slotted home after Vinicius's powerful strike fell kindly to him in the 62nd minute.
With seventeen minutes to go, ,Richarlison netted a goal of the tournament contender with an acrobatic effort that flew into the net.
The Brazil team was captained by experienced Chelsea star Thiago Silva, who partnered Marquinhos at center back in ninety minutes of action.
Although Richarlison stole the headlines with his brace, Silva also caught they eye with a solid defensive performance.
The veteran center back was calm in possession and nullified the threat posed by Serbian marksmen Aleksandar Mitrovic and Dusan Vlahovic.
Several Nigerian fans took to Twitter to praise Silva for his performance against Serbia, and some were thrilled he can still perform at the highest level despite his age.
The 38-year-old has been named on Brazil's roster for each of the last four World Cups and made his twelfth World Cup appearance against Serbia.
