Two Nigeria-eligible players named in Man Utd travelling squad for training camp in Spain
Published: December 04, 2022
Manchester United have announced their travelling squad for a training camp in Spain with two Nigeria-eligible teenagers making the cut.
Manager Erik ten Hag has taken central midfielder Maximillian Oyedele and striker Shola Shoretire to the Andalusian Province, where the squad will be based for one week.
Born in Manchester to a Polish mom and Nigerian father, Oyedele has made five appearances for Poland's U19 national team since the start of this season.
The 18-year-old, who signed his professional contract in the summer, trained with League Two club Doncaster Rovers in October.
He was invited to train with Manchester United first team in their final workout before a Europa League meeting with Omonia Nicosia two months ago.
It is believed that Ten Hag included Oyedele in his traveling squad to make up the numbers, with thirteen Reds plus loan players Hannibal and Alex Telles taking part in the group stage of the 2022 World Cup.
Shoretire needs no introduction. In theory, he is a member of United's first team and has five appearances to his name for the senior squad, the last of which came against Crystal Palace on the final day of last season.
As part of their preparations for the Premier League restart, United will face La Liga sides Cadiz and Real Betis in friendly matches on December 7 and December 10 respectively.
