Golden Eaglets-eligible defender having a fine season at Ajax Youth
Published: December 12, 2022
Golden Eaglets-eligible defender Precious Ugwu is having an outstanding season at the youth team of Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The 2006-born player has formed a strong partnership with Dies Janse in the heart of the Ajax Amsterdam U17 defence.
In thirteen outings in the U17 Division 1 Fall, the 16-year-old has helped the Amsterdam club post seven shutouts.
His immediate target is to break into the Jong Ajax squad that compete in the second tier, before thinking of pushing for a first team call-up.
He also has to make a decision on his international future as he has the option of playing for either the Netherlands or Nigeria.
Should Ugwu choose Nigeria over the Netherlands, he would be following in the footsteps of Super Eagles assistant captain William Troost-Ekong, who was born in the Netherlands.
Ugwu signed with Ajax Amsterdam in 2014 after he was poached from OSV Oostzaan.
The talented teenager offers versatility as he is capable of playing in several defensive positions including central defender, right-back and defensive midfield.
