'The star of the team' - Inter Milan icon confesses he has a 'soft spot' for Super Eagles striker
Published: December 13, 2022Inter Milan icon Sandro Mazzola has confessed that he has a 'soft spot' for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.
The Super Eagles star is the leading scorer in the Italian topflight with nine goals despite missing four games this term due to a muscle injury and has helped Napoli remain undefeated after fifteen matches in the division.
He has attracted widespread interest from Premier League clubs on the back of his brilliant form for The Parthenopeans.
Mazzola believes that Osimhen is the key player in the Napoli squad, rating him ahead of 21-year-old Georgian winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who has made a splash in his maiden season with Napoli with a goal involvement of 18 (8 goals, 10 assists) from seventeen appearances in all competitions.
Napoli brought in Kim Min-jae from Fenerbahce in the summer transfer window as a replacement for Kalidou Koulibaly who departed for Chelsea and the South Korea central defender has adapted to the demands of the Serie A.
Asked to to reveal the Napoli player he particularly likes, Mazzola told Area Napoli : "I confess that I have a 'soft spot' for Victor Osimhen and not since today.
"I've always liked him, I love his way of playing, how he knows how to 'hide' and then be decisive. The Nigerian is a footballer who makes the difference, the star of the team."
Last month, the 23-year-old Osimhen won the Emerging Player Of The Year at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai, beating Barcelona and Real Madrid midfielders Gavi and Federico Valverde.
