MLS SuperDraft 2023 : Real Salt Lake select American-born Nigerian striker
Published: December 22, 2022Real Salt Lake have selected American-born Nigerian striker Emeka Eneli with the 25th overall selection in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft on Thursday morning.
The 1999-born Dublin, Ohio native has been drafted from Cornell University Men's Soccer.
Prior to joining Cornell University Men's Soccer, Eneli starred on Columbus Crew Academy (2012-2017) and Ohio Premier (2017-18), before playing one year of varsity soccer at Dublin Coffman HS.
As a freshman at Cornell University Men's Soccer, he made seventeen appearances including nine starts and as a sophomore started eleven of the twelve matches he played, registering three goals and two assists.
Eneli tallied seven goals and seven assists in fifteen appearances as a senior and was named Ivy League Player of the Week on September 27, 2021.
Nigerian-born players Sunday Stephen, Nedum Onuoha and Boyd Okwuonu wore the colours of Real Salt Lake in the past.
Real Salt Lake finished seventh in the Western Conference in the 2022 season.
