Published: January 08, 2023
Everton are set to confirm the injury suffered by one of their standout players this season, Alex Iwobi is not as bad as first feared.
Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that the Toffees medics have diagnosed that Iwobi's ankle is not broken, but it is bruised and swollen, and the initial prognosis is that he will spend 'few weeks' on the sidelines.
Iwobi had to be taken off on a stretcher in the opening minutes of the second half of Everton's 3-1 loss to Manchester United in an Emirates FA Cup fixture on Friday night.
The Super Eagles star landed awkwardly after he was accidentally caught on the ankle by Manchester United fullback Tyrell Malacia as he broke forward.
Iwobi sounded confident of making an early comeback when he took to social media to provide an update on his injury on Saturday.
The Everton number 17 wrote on Instagram : "Appreciate The Love, Back Soon".
Several Hale End Academy products including Bukayo Saka, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Tafari Moore have sent messages of support to iwobi, who made 149 appearances for the Gunners before switching to Everton in the summer of 2019.
Bukayo Saka wrote : "Speedy recovery bro".
Ainsley Maitland-Niles added : "Back soon for real"
Tafari Moore, who played together with Iwobi in the UEFA Youth League, added : "And better"
Iwobi's international teammates William Troost-Ekong (Watford), Wilfred Ndidi (Leicester City) and Frank Onyeka (Brentford) have also sent him messages of support, but preferred using emojis instead of words to convey their feelings.
Here's what they posted below :
Troost-Ekong : 🙏🏽💪🏽
Wilfred Ndidi : 🙏🏾
Frank Onyeka : 🙏🏾❤️
