Talented Arsenal duo receive Nigeria call-ups ahead of U20 AFCON
Published: January 11, 2023
Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report with certainty that the Nigeria Football Federation have moved ahead of their European and African counterparts in the race for the services of two promising Arsenal players in the shape of Ovie Ejeheri and Joel Ideho.
Ideho and Ejeheri have been handed call-ups to Nigeria's U20 national team, the Flying Eagles, ahead of the 2023 Africa U20 Cup of Nations tournament that will be hosted by Egypt from February 19 to March 11, 2023.
Born in London nineteen years ago, Ejeheri qualifies to represent Nigeria through his father and is also eligible to turn out for his country of birth England as well as Uganda.
The Gunners goalkeeper has been on the radar of the Nigeria youth team coaches for about three years and was in contention to be invited to the Golden Eaglets in 2019 but eventually missed out on the opportunity because he was recovering from a long-term injury.
Ejeheri was arguably Arsenal's standout loanee in the first half of the season, posting twelve clean sheets while conceding fourteen goals during his loan spell at National League South club Chelmsford City before returning to the Emirates Stadium this week,
Flamboyant winger Ideho was born in Tilburg in the Netherlands and has played non-binding games for the Europeans at youth level.
The 19-year-old has impressed for the Gunners development squad in cup competitions this season, scoring three goals in the Premier League Cup.
Ideho was invited to train with Arsenal's first team last weekend before their Emirates FA Cup clash with Oxford United.
