PSV Eindhoven willing to let Madueke leave for Chelsea for Cody Gakpo-like fee
Published: January 13, 2023
Dutch Eredivisie side, PSV Eindhoven are adamant that they will not let go of forward Noni Madueke for less than the amount that secured the signature of former teammate, Cody Gakpo, according to Dutch newspaper Eindhovens Dagblad.
Chelsea, currently mid-table in the Premier League table and struggling with injuries to key players, are keen to sign more strikers in the January transfer window.
With the Blues still exploring the possibility of bidding for the England youth international who is eligible to play for Nigeria through his parents, his current employers are talking tough and ready to play hard ball in negotiations should Graham Potter's team officially make their interest known.
Writing for Eindhovens Dagblad, football journalist, Rik Elfrink said : "In principle, PSV's intention is that he will only be sold next summer, but nothing is impossible this winter either," Elfrink writes for the publication on Friday.
"According to well-informed sources, PSV have taken the position that it must now generate a minimum amount of around 40-45 million euros. That would at least be the first target price and scares off potential buyers."
Elfrink however does not rule out the possibility that a club that offers an amount 'that is close' will eventually be able to negotiate with general and technical director Marcel Brands about a possibly lower price.
PSV realize that Madueke is one of the players who represents a high transfer value, especially because he is a homegrown player for Premier League clubs, having spent the formative years of his career at Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur.
Clubs in England, the report stated, usually pay a little more for players that qualify as homegrown talents than for players who do not have this status.
