'My first choice' - Super Eagles-eligible CB sends message to Celtic over his future
Published: January 15, 2023
Super Eagles-eligible central defender Moritz Jenz has made it clear that he wants to continue his collaboration with Scottish Premiership champions Celtic beyond the end of the season.
The Berlin native of Nigerian descent joined the Hoops on a season-long loan deal from Ligue 1 outfit Lorient in the summer transfer window with an option to buy him outright included in the deal.
Jenz started his Celtic career in brilliant form, scoring in his first two appearances in the Premiership.
The 23-year-old was one of the first names on manager Ange Postecoglou's teamsheet for the group stage of the Champions League, going the distance in all the matches played by the Bhoys.
But things have been looking bleak for Jenz since the restart of domestic action, with the center back not tasting action in seven consecutive matches across all competitions, and his inactivity over the last two months has thrown his future in doubt.
Commenting on his future, Jenz stressed that he's happy at Celtic but aware that the decision whether or not to extend his stay is not in his hands.
"Celtic would be my first choice but you can't control it yourself in football," Jenz told Fussball Woche
Jenz has also worn the colours of Alemannia 06 Haselhorst, SC Siemensstadt, Tennis Borussia Berlin and Fulham in the past.
