Is joining Chelsea a wrong transfer decision for Madueke?
Published: January 21, 2023Chelsea on Friday completed the signing of Nigeria-eligible winger, Nonso Madueke from Dutch side, PSV Eindhoven.
The player was expected to have signed for the Blues earlier in the month but the arrival of Ukraine forward, Mykhailo Mudryk whom Chelsea secured at the expense of London rivals, Arsenal, seemed to have put the interest in the back-burner.
The deal was however wrapped up on Friday evening with the England U-21 international putting pen to paper on a seven-and-a - half year deal.
With the negotiations and medicals now done and the player unveiled, it's time to project into his future at the club. How would he fare?
Allnigeriasoccer.com attempts to make sense out of his move to Stamford Bridge.
Competition For Places
Madueke has walked into a club with a number of world class players and will unarguably face a daunting task of finding a first team place on regular basis.
Chelsea is an attractive proposition but the fact that he will find a starting place a difficult to navigate due to the player-quality at the club would have ensured that his agents worked hard in finding him a new club where stiff competition does not necessarily exist.
Stay Put At PSV
It is always better to be a big fish in a small pond instead of the other way around.
Following the departure of his teammate and teammate, Cody Gakpo who was signed by Liverpool, staying put at the Dutch club might have been a good choice for the Super Eagles-eligible player.
However, that is provided his former had used the Gakpo money to find a bargain, but hugely talented replacement.
Unless Chelsea move on some of its wide players in the current window to make room for Madueke, he will find it difficult to get plenty of game time.
Madueke will have a lot of battles to fight as per his career choices and unless things fall in good places for him, and some players he will compete with are moved on, the Chelsea transfer may not be cleverest idea.
The Anglo-Nigerian took a massive risk in his decision in the last 24 hours.
