2021 Super Eagles invitee battles Arsenal, Man Utd and Spurs stars, 4 others for EPL GOTM
Published: January 26, 2023
2021 Super Eagles invitee Michael Olise is in the running for the Premier League Goal of the Month award for January 2023.
The France U21 international of Nigerian descent has been nominated for his sensational free-kick goal in the closing minutes of Crystal Palace's 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Selhurst Park on January 18.
Crystal Palace were staring defeat in the face after Bruno Fernandes had given the Red Devils the lead just before halftime, but Olise snatched a point for the Eagles in the first minute of second half stoppage time when he delivered a sumptuous effort over United's three-man wall and into the top corner.
Also up for the Premier League Goal of the Month award are Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka, Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford, Tottenham Hotspur superstar Harry Kane, Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Daniel Podence, and Brighton & Hove trio Solly March, Danny Welbeck and Kaoru Mitoma.
Olise will be aiming to emulate Chelsea academy product Ola Aina, who is the only player of Nigerian descent to win the Premier League Goal of the Month award in the past.
The winner of the Premier League Goal of the Month will be revealed on Friday, February 3.
