Arsenal loanee Balogun continues to flourish in Ligue 1, stuns PSG with 96th minute equaliser
Published: January 29, 2023
On-loan Gunner Folarin Balogun continues to flourish in the French Ligue 1, scoring a 96th minute goal to salvage a point as Stade de Reims played out a 1-1 draw with a star-studded Paris Saint-Germain team with Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar in their starting lineup.
Reims were on an unbeaten run of thirteen matches in all competitions before their visit to the Parc des Princes.
Though the first half ended goalless, the visitors had the better chances to take the lead but the PSG defence was resolute.
The PSG players stepped up the tempo in the second half and deservedly took the lead in the 51st minute when Brazilian striker Neymar beat the goalkeeper and fired the ball into an empty net.
Just as it seemed the Parisians would claim all three points, Balogun, with a composed finish, bagged the equalizer after an excellent pass from Kamory Doumbia.
The Hale End Academy product has now scored eleven goals in the French topflight so far this season, bettered only by PSG duo Mbappe and Neymar, Jonathan David (Lille), Alexandre Lacazette (Lyon) and Terem Moffi (Lorient).
PSG still top the table with 48 points from 20 matches, while Reims are eleventh with 26 points accumulated.
