'Too many dangerous fouls against Osimhen' - Napoli striker's agent sends message to referees
Published: January 31, 2023
Italian intermediary Roberto Calenda has sent a message to Serie A referees to better protect his client Victor Osimhen.
The Nigeria national teamer was targeted by the Roma players in Napoli's recent 2-1 win at the Diego Maradona Stadium and played some part of the game with his wrist bandaged after a heavy challenge from Chris Smalling.
Osimhen has missed six games through injury this term and last season spent two months on the sidelines after fracturing his cheekbone - an injury that saw him miss the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
Despite the rough treatment he received at the hands of the Roma stars, the 24-year-old won only two fouls over the course of the 75 minutes he spent on the pitch, and was criticized post-match by manager Jose Mourinho for simulation.
Osimhen's agent, Calenda praised the striker for his brilliant performance against the capital outfit but urged referees to offer him more protection.
Writing on Twitter, he said : "Other game, other rocket in the universe from Victor.
"Message for the referees: too many dangerous fouls against Osimhen. It is not possible to play like this!!! "
Osimhen has been in sensational form this season, scoring fifteen goals in 20 appearances across all competitions.
