'He's so fast' - Ajax Amsterdam great Frank de Boer gives Bassey vote of confidence

Ajax Amsterdam great Frank de Boer has insisted that Calvin Bassey will come good at the current Dutch Eredivisie champions.
Last summer, Bassey joined Ajax from Glasgow Rangers for a fee that could rise to 26.5 million euros with performance-related add-ons, and he's now under enormous pressure to justify the huge fee the Dutch giants paid for him.
The versatile defender has taken time to adapt to the demands of the Eredivisie following his move from the Scottish Premiership, so much so that he was scapegoated for Ajax's poor run of results which led to the dismissal of Alfred Schreuder.
Frank de Boer believes Bassey has many good attributes and his Ajax teammates should help him to get better.
Speaking to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, via Soccer News, De Boer said : "I think he is a very good left center back. I'd be thrilled to have a Bassey next to me because he's so fast.
"They just have to help him with the ball. Johan Cruijff once jokingly said that the people around you are responsible for how well you play.
"That's how Ajax should also help such a boy, because Bassey has a lot of weapons,"
Bassey has come under scrutiny for his offensive weaknesses and his lack of passing ability.
In 25 all-competitions since his move to Ajax Amsterdam, the 23-year-old has scored one goal and provided four assists.
