Club chief reveals Chelsea made at least four bids to sign Super Eagles-eligible player in January

PSV Eindhoven director Marcel Brands has revealed that Chelsea made at least four bids to sign Super Eagles-eligible player Nonso Madueke in the winter transfer market.
PSV had no choice but to sell Madueke to Chelsea because their valuation of the player was met and the former Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace schoolboy was keen on returning to England.
The Eredivisie giants ended their four-and-a-half-year association with the England U21 international approximately two weeks ago in exchange for a fee in the region of 40 million euros.
Madueke earned rave reviews for his performance on his Premier League debut against Fulham on Friday.
His appearances were limited in his final season at PSV due to an ankle injury he suffered during pre-season preparations.
In quotes relayed by Voetbal Zone, Brands said : "He hardly played. We knew his personal situation, that he really wanted to go back to England.
"I literally said to his father: 'Not this winter, because his value is not such that we want to do a transfer with him.' But at some point there will be bids. First 25, then 28, 32, 35, and then it will be close to forty million.
"Then we wondered internally whether we should hold back any longer."
Madueke signed a seven-and-a-half-year contract with The Blues, with a club option for the 2030-2031 season.
