Arsenal may consider summer sale of red-hot Super Eagles-eligible striker
Published: February 07, 2023
Super Eagles-eligible striker, Folarin Balogun could be sold by Arsenal in the summer despite the unwillingness of the Premier League leaders to entertain offers for the England U-21 international in the January transfer window.
Balogun, who has hinted in the past that he will consider playing for Nigeria where he has his roots in international football, is currently leading the French Ligue 1 top scorers' chart with 14 goals above the more illustrious PSG star Kylian Mbappe.
The youngster is also eligible to represent the United States or England at senior level but it is his club career that is receiving more attention at the moment.
The Sun newspaper in the UK on Tuesday report that despite his impressive outing thus far in the French Ligue 1 for Reims, Arsenal might deem it necessary to pounce on the opportunity as he is in the form of his life.
Reims' coach, Wil Still according to the report, had enquired of the availability of Balogun as his loan deal will come to its end at the conclusion of the 2022/2023 campaign.
The Gunners' dilemma stems from whether the striker can genuinely stake a claim in the team by outperforming the duo of Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah or lose the impressive form that he is presently having.
Balogun fired blanks against Auxerre in Reims' last league match but will have the opportunity to further increase his tally on Sunday when they host Troyes.
The match kicks off at 3pm Nigerian time.
