Arteta promotes teenage midfielder of Nigerian descent to Arsenal first team training
Published: February 09, 2023
Manager Mikel Arteta promoted teenage attacking midfielder of Nigerian descent Ethan Nwaneri to first team training on Thursday, February 9, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Nwaneri needs no introduction at home and abroad thanks to the midfielder entering the record books as the youngest player to feature in the Premier League, aged 15 years and 181 days when making his debut at Brentford on September 18, 2022.
The Gunners have stepped up their preparations for the Premier League meeting with The Bees at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, February 11, 1600 hours Nigerian time.
Nwaneri was involved in the reverse fixture in West London coming off the bench to replace Fabio Vieira with a minute left on the clock.
Since his history-making debut, he has not received a call-up for a first team match, but has been spotted on several occasions training with the first teamers.
Nwaneri is considered one of the biggest prospects in the academy and Arsenal are doing everything possible to keep him amid interest from the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City.
He has been a starter in three games played by Arsenal's development squad in this season's Premier League 2.
