Confirmed : Houston Dynamo sign Nigerian-born defender to homegrown contract
Published: February 17, 2023
With a statement on their official website, Major League Soccer club Houston Dynamo have confirmed that Nigerian-born defender Mujeeb Murana has been signed to a homegrown contract.
Murana has signed a contract until the end of the 2023 season, with club options for 2024 and 2025.
The 22-year-old earned himself a deal with Houston Dynamo's first team after some impressive performances for Houston Dynamo 2.
He appeared in 23 matches in the MLS Next Pro over the course of the 2022 season, helping Houston Dynamo keep ten clean sheets and provided one assist.
Murana was born in Nigeria before moving to the United States in 2007, where his father enrolled him in local soccer programs.
A fullback by trade, he joined the Houston Dynamo academy in 2012 and spent three years at Saint Louis University, where he was twice named to the All-Atlantic 10 team.
Murana is the club's 15th academy product to earn a homegrown deal with the first team.
