'Napoli can aim to win the UCL' - Peseiro insists Real Madrid, Bayern are beatable
Published: March 14, 2023
Nigeria manager Jose Peseiro has insisted that Napoli stand a good chance of winning this season's UEFA Champions League.
Napoli, the Serie A champions in waiting, are well placed to advance to the last eight of the Champions League after beating Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 in the first leg of their round of 16 clash on February 21.
Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are among the favorites to win the Champions League, but Peseiro believes both clubs are beatable.
Having watched Napoli's win over Atalanta at the weekend and also the team's training session last Friday, the Portuguese football tactician was impressed with what he saw on ground.
"I think that Napoli, as well as being able to win the championship, can also aim to win the Champions League," Peseiro said to Sportitalia.
"This is because at the moment I don't see a team clearly superior to the others. Of course, there are teams full of champions like Real Madrid and the Bayern Munich who obviously aim for victory, but I don't see them as unbeatable this year."
Peseiro concluded by saying the Napoli will be able to focus on the Champions League as they have an 18-point gap over nearest challengers for the Serie A title, Inter Milan, with 12 matches to the end of the season.
Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen inspired Napoli to a win against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League round of 16, first leg.
