Official : Flying Eagles-eligible left-back signs new contract with Chelsea
Published: March 17, 2023
With a statement on their official website, Premier League giants Chelsea have announced that Flying Eagles-eligible left-back Somto Boniface has committed his future to the club.
Eight months after signing a scholarship, Boniface has put pen to paper on his first professional contract with the Blues.
His new contract with Chelsea will keep him at Stamford Bridge until at least the end of the 2024-2025 season.
Boniface can play at left-back or left wing-back and made his debut in the U18 Premier League while still a schoolboy.
Overall, the 2006-born player has appeared in fourteen matches in the U18 Premier League, played two matches in the FA Youth Cup, and has also featured for Chelsea in the U18 Premier League Cup.
He received his first call-up to Chelsea U19s against AC Milan in the UEFA Youth League back in October but was a non-playing substitute.
A member of the England U16 team that won the Val de Marne tournament in 2021-2022, Boniface has also represented the Young Lions at U17 level but all the matches were non-binding.
Boniface has played nonstop at Chelsea since U19 level after he was signed from the club's local scouting network.
