Arsenal midfielder Nwaneri named among 50 best wonderkids in football
Published: March 21, 2023
Arsenal's Flying Eagles-eligible attacking midfielder Ethan Nwaneri has been named among 'the fifty best wonderkids in football' by Goal.com.
To be eligible to be included on Goal's 2023 NXGN list which celebrates the 50 best young talents in men's professional football, players must be born on or after January 1, 2004.
Previously, the top 50 wonderkids were ranked, with Jadon Sancho, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Jude Bellingham finishing as the eventual winners.
Hale End Academy product Nwaneri, who is in his final season as a schoolboy, made his debuts in the Premier League, Premier League 2, Papa Johns Trophy, FA Youth Cup and Premier League International Cup this season.
Nwaneri's name went into the record books when he came on as a substitute for Fabio Vieira in the 90th minute of Arsenal's 3-0 win over Brentford on September 18, becoming the youngest player in Premier League history.
Aged 15 years and 181 days, the Anglo-Nigerian broke the record previously held by Harvey Elliot, who was 16 years and 30 days old when he played for Fulham in May 2019.
Goal.com predicted that Nwaneri is expected to have a career at the very top of the game, and added that the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea are fighting hard to sign him before he agrees a professional contract with Arsenal.
