Charlton U21 boss reacts to performance of Nigerian midfielder against Chelsea's Kante
Published: March 25, 2023Charlton Athletic U21s manager Danny Senda has reacted to the performance of Nigeria-eligible midfielder Jason Adigun in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Friday afternoon at Cobham Training Centre.
The Blues development squad thrashed the Addicks 3-0, with Dion Rankine, Silko Thomas and Malik Mothersille getting on the score sheet.
Looking to build up his match fitness, Chelsea head coach Graham Potter sent 2018 World Cup winner N'Golo Kante to the U21s to play against Charlton Athletic, with the holding midfielder lasting one hour on the pitch.
German-born Nigerian right-back Derrick Abu also featured for Chelsea's development squad in the friendly.
A midfielder by trade, Adigun, 19, is in the first year of his professional contract with Charlton Athletic, and has yet to make his senior debut for the London club.
Speaking post-match, Senda said it was a good experience for Adigun and his teammates to play against one of the best holding midfielders in the world, Kante.
Senda told the official website of the Addicks : "It was a very good experience for our boys, especially in the middle of the pitch where Harvey Kedwell, Matt Dench and Jason Adigun got to play against someone of the pedigree of N’Golo Kante.
"At times we competed and at times you saw the level and quality that we want to get to. There were a lot of positives for us to take and it was a good experience for the players."
Blues first team stars Mason Mount and Thiago Silva watched yesterday's friendly at Chelsea Training Ground.
