Orban's potential replacement? Alli says no contact with Gent; confirms interest from Kortrijk, STVV
Published: April 06, 2023
Zbrojovka Brno's Nigerian winger Wale Alli has reacted to speculation in the Nigerian media linking him with a summer transfer to Belgian Pro League side KAA Gent.
Alli has clarified that he has had no contact whatsoever with Gent but confirmed that he is being monitored by two other Belgian clubs in the shape of Sint-Truidense V.V and K.V. Kortrijk.
It was suggested that Gent had identified Alli as a potential replacement for Gift Orban who is on the radar of several European clubs following a blistering start to his career at The Buffalos.
Alli has insisted that he has the qualities to play in the Jupiler Pro League after seeing a dream move to Belgium fall through before he transfered to Zbrojovka Brno.
The 22-year-old has not done badly this season, with a goal involvement of nine in twenty eight outings across all competitions for Zbrojovka Brno.
When contacted to react to reports linking him with a move to Gent as a replacement for Orban, Alli told allnigeriasoccer.com : "I don't know anything about Gent's interest. Nobody has contacted me from Gent. They should make an offer if they are interested.
"My goal is to play in Belgium. Before I joined Zbrojovka Brno, I was supposed to move to the Belgian league but several clubs were not ready to take a gamble. They said I was smallish.
"I want to show them in Belgium I have the quality to play in the league, I may be small but have the quality and I have shown that in the Czech Republic. It almost broke me down when they said I was too small."
Alli continued : "I know of the interest from Sint-Truidense V.V and K.V. Kortrijk. We have five more games to play. I have to keep playing well so I can convince the two clubs.
"Most teams in Belgium already know me, The Jupiler Pro League is good, I will be very happy to play there."
Alli, who has been likened to Chelsea's Ranheem Sterling due to his playing style and small stature, is fast, strong, changes direction with ease, draws a lot of fouls and has excellent movement with or without the ball.
