2023 EFL Awards : Akpom in the running to be named Championship Player of the Season
Published: April 11, 2023Middlesbrough forward Chuba Akpom is in the running to be named the Championship Player of the Season at the upcoming 2023 EFL Awards.
It has been a breakthrough season for the 27-year-old with 26 goals and 2 assists in 34 games in the Championship for Boro.
He was awarded the EFL Championship Player of the Month in December.
Akpom has also broken the record for most consecutive goals scored at the Riverside, after finding the net in seven consecutive matches at Boro's home stadium.
The Arsenal-reared forward is the leading scorer in the Championship and is the player with the most goal contributions (28).
For the Championship Player of the Season, Akpom will be contending with Viktor Gyökeres whose 18 goals and nine assists have put Coventry City in a position to secure a playoff spot.
Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill completes the three-man shortlist. The experienced midfielder has 6 goals and eight assists for the Clarets.
Akpom's fellow Hale End academy graduate, Nathan Tella, didn't make the shortlist despite bagging 17 goals and 5 assists in 37 matches for Burnley.
