Balogun on Marseille's shortlist as potential replacement for ex-Arsenal favourite Sanchez
Published: April 20, 2023Arsenal-owned striker Folarin Balogun is a transfer target for Marseille in the summer transfer window.
French sports daily L'Equipe, via Onze Mondial claims that Marseille are considering the possibility of signing Balogun and Southampton starlet Sékou Mara with the futures of former Gunners favourite Alexis Sanchez and Cengiz Ünder up in the air.
Sanchez joined Marseille on a one-year deal last August after terminating his contract with Inter Milan.
Balogun has impressed everyone since landing at Stade de Reims last summer with his goalscoring displays.
The Hale End Academy graduate has tallied eighteen goals in the Ligue 1, putting him fourth in the Golden Boot race behind Paris Saint Germain's Kylian Mbappe, Lille's Jonathan David and Lyon's Alexandre Lacazette.
Marseille have done transfer business with the Gunners in recent seasons, signing defenders Nuno Tavares and William Saliba on loan deals.
Balogun has made it clear he wants to be playing on a regular basis at Arsenal but it won't be an easy task for the England U21 international of Nigerian descent to break into the starting lineup, with Gabriel Jesus, Eddie Nketiah and Leandro Trossard ahead of him in manager Mikel Arteta's pecking order of strikers.
Clubs in Germany notably RB Leipzig, plus La Liga, Serie A and Premier League clubs are also monitoring the situation of the 21-year-old.
